Alabama Department of Senior Services
The State Unit on Aging, the Alabama Department of Senior Services (ADSS), serves as an advocate for Seniors and provides support and oversight to the state's 13 Area Agencies on Aging. The Alabama Department of Senior Services receives its primary funding under Title III of the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended. It is also funded under Title XIX of the Social Security Act to provide in-home and community services to Medicaid eligible and disabled persons to prevent or delay institutionalization.

The Administration on Aging
The Administration on Aging (AOA), established through the Older Americans Act, is an agency of the US Department of Health and Human Services. AOA serves as a federal focal point and advocate agency for Seniors. It provides support to the State Units on Aging and the nation's 655 Area Agencies on Aging.

Advocacy Partners

Alabama Association of Area Agencies - a4a
Senior PromiseThe Alabama Association of Area Agencies (a4a) is a partnership of Alabama Area Agencies on Aging whose mission is to address the needs, independence, dignity and quality of life among Alabama's senior citizens. Their goal is to establish a single point of entry for aging services, allowing Seniors easy centralized access to information, referral and aging services.

The association established the "Senior Promise" campaign, a grassroots effort to encourage elected officials to address and support Senior issues.
